Why Irish, and why now

Many staff learned Irish at school but lost it along the way.

This course helps them get it back, through a gripping story, a little at a time.

For public bodies

Under the Official Languages Act, at least 20% of recruits to public bodies must be competent in Irish by the end of 2030, and the national plan puts a strong emphasis on upskilling current staff.

This course builds the listening, confidence and everyday Irish that staff need before, or alongside, more formal training.

For companies

Show a real commitment to Irish, inside your organisation as well as in your branding.

A shared course gives colleagues something enjoyable to do together, and gives staff who serve the public the confidence to use the cĂşpla focal and more.

The course: An Mac TĂre Deireanach

An Mac Tíre Deireanach (The Last Wolf) is a novel by Patricia Forde, Laureate na nÓg 2023–2026. It's set in Ireland in 1652, when Cromwell's government put a bounty on wolves. Can Úna save the last wolf?

Written for younger readers, its language is clear and natural, which makes it ideal for adult learners. Staff listen to native-speaker recordings while following the bilingual text, and build a steady habit of about 15 minutes every other day.

Level: upper beginner to lower intermediate. Ideal for anyone who did Irish at school.

Dates: starts 25 November 2026 and runs for three weeks.

What learners say

“This learning method really works — my comprehension kicked up a level or two, and I can now follow TG4 programmes I had no hope of understanding before.”

Jenn Connell, Brisbane

“Listen Up is a sneaky way to improve language skills… I was so engrossed in the story that I really didn’t feel like I was doing a lesson.”
